Chapter History

You have to know where you’ve been to know where you are going. Kappa holds a special place in its heart for Fraternity history, but every chapter of our organization has unique beginnings of its own. Each plays a part in shaping us today. Read more about our chapters’ histories in Kappa's digital archives.

The Delta Eta Chapter was founded on November 11, 1932, by 22 determined and trailblazing women.

Before receiving their charter from Kappa Kappa Gamma, the chapter first existed as Lambda Phi Lambda. During their 13-year journey toward becoming an official Kappa chapter, they adopted the hourglass as their symbol to represent the time, perseverance, and dedication that defined their path.

Since its founding, Delta Eta has initiated more than 3,000 women into the Kappa sisterhood. Generations of members have contributed to the chapter’s lasting legacy through leadership, scholarship, philanthropy, friendship, and service both on campus and beyond.

Today, Delta Eta continues to foster a supportive community rooted in the values of Kappa Kappa Gamma while empowering women at the University of Utah to lead, grow, and make a lasting impact on campus and in their communities.
